Historic Information:
The R. L. White House
Robert Leon White and his wife, Viola Baker White purchased the home in 1936 from the original owner. R.L. White was a Professor of Architecture at the University of Texas from 1923-1964. During his tenure, he was influential in determining the overall scope of the campus architecture. Among other notable architectural contributions, he designed the Union, Hogg Auditorium and was the supervising architect to Paul Philippe Cret on the building of UT Main and the Tower.

Four generations of the White family resided in the home from 1922-2003.
Several of the materials used in White’s renovation of the home were associated with the UT main building and the Tower. The patio walls were built with bricks from the demolished Old Main building, the limestone used on the patio floor was ordered along with the materials used to build the UT tower, and the same tile that was used in the downstairs bathroom was used in the Tower stairwell.
